QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in the field of special education
An understanding of teaching and the duties of a special education teacher
Eligibility to hold a valid instructional certificate as issued by the Department of Education for the state of Arkansas
Any alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find acceptable and reasonable

REPORTS TO: Principal


Job Goal: Special Education Teacher (K–6)

The goal of this position is to provide high-quality, individualized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs in grades K–6. The Special Education Teacher will collaborate effectively and positively with general education teachers to ensure all students receive an inclusive, supportive, and rigorous educational experience. This role focuses on meeting each student’s academic, social, and emotional needs through the development and implementation of appropriate interventions, accommodations, and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The teacher will foster strong communication, maintain compliance with all special education requirements, and work as a team member to promote student success and growth across all learning environments.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree.
  2. Current Arkansas certification in Special Education at the appropriate grade level.
  3. Evidence of successful experience in working with students at risk.
  4. Evidence of ability to work well with others.
  5. Experience in implementing non-aversive behavioral programs and social skills training. 
  6. Evidence of strong writing and organizational skills. 
  7. Evidence of ability to implement Individual Education Plans. 
  8. Evidence of a strong commitment to quality desegregated education.

Such alternatives and additions to the above qualifications may be deemed appropriate by the Superintendent. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.
