Position Overview
The Special Education Teacher Liaison to Vocational Programs serves as the primary link between the special education department and vocational technical programs. The Liaison supports students with disabilities in vocational shops by coordinating IEP implementation, accommodations, and instructional supports in collaboration with vocational instructors, special education staff, and administrators.

This role ensures that students with disabilities have equitable access to career technical education while meeting safety, skill, and industry standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Student Support & IEP Implementation
* Support the implementation of IEP accommodations and modifications within vocational shop programs.
* Assist vocational instructors in understanding and applying student-specific accommodations, safety considerations, and instructional strategies.
* Monitor student progress toward IEP goals in vocational settings and report concerns to the Special Education Coordinator.
* Participate in IEP meetings, TEAM meetings, and transition planning related to vocational programming.
* Support students in developing vocational, employability, and self-advocacy skills.

Collaboration with Vocational Programs
* Serve as the primary liaison between special education staff and vocational instructors.
* Facilitate regular communication between vocational teachers and special education case managers.
* Assist in problem-solving and developing strategies to implement accommodations for access, behavior, attendance, and performance in shop settings.
* Support inclusive practices in vocational classrooms and labs.

Transition & Career Readiness Support
* Assist with vocational assessments and career interest inventories.
* Support transition planning beginning at age 14, with emphasis on career pathways, certifications, and postsecondary employment.
* Collaborate with cooperative education and work-based learning coordinators to support students with disabilities in off-campus placements.
* Help ensure appropriate accommodations are in place for industry credentialing or certification exams.
* Coordinate with transition specialist and School to Careers Director to plan programmatic supports for students with disabilities as needed as well as make Work Opportunities Unlimited and 688 referrals as needed

Documentation & Compliance
* Assist in collecting vocational performance data for IEP progress reporting.
* Maintain accurate documentation related to accommodations, modifications, and student progress in vocational settings.
* Support compliance with IDEA and Massachusetts special education regulations (603 CMR 28.00).
* Communicate concerns regarding safety, accessibility, or compliance to the Special Education Director.
* Performs additional responsibilities as assigned to support the school’s instructional program and operations.

Professional Development & Capacity Building
* Provide informal coaching and support to vocational instructors regarding differentiation and accommodations.
* Participate in professional development related to special education, vocational instruction, and inclusive practices.
* Stay current with best practices related to accessibility in career and technical education environments.
