Swampscott Elementary School - SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER - Long Term Substitute SY 25/26
We are seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher with a Moderate Disabilities license for small group instruction/inclusion programming at the elementary level
Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized instruction, including curriculum development and accommodations, for students with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities and/or autism
- Modify the curriculum to meet grade-level entry points as needed
- Implement ELA and Math curricula tailored to students’ needs
- Provide accommodations within the inclusion setting for various subjects
- Collect data to inform student progress and guide interventions
- Model and coach the support staff on the implementation of accommodations
- Facilitate social skills groups and utilize incidental teaching techniques to build social skills
- Maintain effective communication with parents to support student success
- Complete evaluations, write IEPs, and prepare progress reports
Requirements:
- Must have at least 2 excellent references
- Must pass all required screenings, including CORI, SAFIS fingerprinting, and 1-9 eligibility to work in the U.S.
- Experience in working with children, preferably within an educational setting
- Strong communication skills, both written and spoken
- Must be physically capable of and willing to engage in providing levels of support which may include modeling, coaching, and verbal, visual, and/or physical prompts required to meet the student's individual needs as stated in an IEP
- Must be able to walk 8,000-10,000 steps per school day
- Other qualifications will vary depending on the specific needs of the assigned
Qualifications:
- Master’s level preferred
- 3 years of experience preferred
- Moderate Disabilities DESE certification in the required grade level
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with all stakeholders, including students, colleagues, and families/caregivers

Physical Requirements:
This position may require long periods of sitting, talking or hearing in person and by telephone, using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or controls; reaching with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus. The individual may be exposed to ultraviolet lights as are found in computer monitors and copying equipment. The individual may be exposed to various hazards in the building.
