Special Education Teacher

Job Goals: Create an inclusive and supportive learning environment, individualizing instruction to meet the diverse academic and social-emotional needs of students with special needs, fostering their growth and success.

Supervision: Building Principal


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

To teach students, in small groups, individual, and large group situations, in a variety of subjects and in different settings, i.e.: general education class, resource room with an outcome of improved student performance in identified areas.
Provides targeted, evidence-based academic instruction including reading instruction (e.g., Orton-Gillingham, Wilson) to students through small groups and 1:1 sessions
Collaborate with teachers, students and their families, the school nurse, school counselors, and other members of a student's support team
Develop and propose a plan for students with specific tasks that will help them meet their goals
Provide academics assessments and ongoing data analysis
Conduct initial and triennial evaluations for students
Assess student' progress against goals and prepare progress reports 4 times per year
Integrate technology into lessons to support student achievement.
Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the school.
Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
Strive to implement, by instruction and action, the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, School Committee Policy and administrative regulations.
Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and School Committee policy.
Accept a share of responsibility for supervising and monitoring both formal and informal non-classroom activities.
Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.
Attend staff meetings, and serve on committees as required.
Collaborate with other teachers and paraprofessionals as appropriate and necessary.


Qualifications:
Requirements:
Moderate Disabilities license and formal training in Reading Instruction (e.g., Orton Gillingham, Wilson)
Preferred:
Experience working in a Middle School setting is preferred.
