Position: Special Education Teacher - Preschool Play Groups Summer Program - Internal Applicants Only

 

Location: Various Sites

 

Salary: The rate of pay for this position is $40.00/hour for staff holding MSDE certification. 

 

Effective: July 1,2026, 12 days from July 1-31 4.5 hours per day (8:30-1:00 ) plus 1 planning day 9:00-12:00 prior to the beginning of the camp.

NATURE OF WORK:

The Special Education Teacher works with children and their families in an early childhood setting and must possess knowledge of child development.

  • Possess knowledge of the programs, policies, and procedures of the St. Mary’s County Public Schools

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Delivers specialized instruction in the development of readiness skills
  • Collaborates with families and additional service providers to disseminate information about student needs to determine what differentiated strategies to use in each lesson
  • Assists families in making informed decisions           
  • Communicates positively with families about student progress and assists students with developmental needs in daily living skills (e.g., toileting, feeding, etc.)
  • Collaborates with colleagues to develop lessonsfor students with disabilities
  • Considers modifications and the scaffolding necessary for each student to access developmentally appropriate activities
  • Collaborates with families and other service providers to ensure that children have access to developmentally appropriate activities
  • Provides positive communication to team members and families about student progress and achievement
  • Provides activities to children and their families in a playgroup/family engagement setting
  • Provides access to developmentally appropriate activities to children and their families
  • Performs other related and non-related job duties as assigned

  • Current SMCPS Teacher 

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a temporary/hourly summer assignment, starting July 1, three two-hour playgroups per week plus two hours per week planning/prep time.

 

SALARY GRADE RANGE: The rate of pay for this position is $40.00/hour for staff holding MSDE certification. 

 

BARGAINING UNIT ELIGIBILITY: Not eligible.
