SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
Qualifications:
Applicant must hold appropriate SC certification or have applied for appropriate SC certification in special education, multi-categorical.

Job Summary:
The Special Education Teacher provides individualized instruction and support to students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs. The teacher collaborates with general education staff, families, and related service providers to ensure students have access to the curriculum, make academic and social progress, and develop independence in the least restrictive environment.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with federal, state, and district regulations.
- Provide direct instruction to students in academic, functional, social, and behavioral skills based on individual needs.
- Adapt and modify curriculum, instructional strategies, and materials to meet diverse learning needs.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to plan and deliver accommodations, modifications, and inclusive practices.
- Utilize a variety of assessment tools and data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Implement behavior intervention plans and use positive behavioral supports to promote student success.
- Maintain accurate records, progress reports, and documentation as required by law and district policy.
- Participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, and staff to foster strong partnerships.
- Supervise and collaborate with instructional assistants, paraprofessionals, or support staff assigned to the classroom.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to remain current with evidence-based practices, instructional strategies, and compliance requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Understanding of IDEA, Section 504, and state special education regulations.
- Ability to design and deliver differentiated instruction.
- Strong classroom management and behavior intervention skills.
- Effective collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time while instructing or observing students.
- Ability to move about the classroom and school campus, including standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching.
- Must be able to operate standard classroom equipment and technology.
- Must be able to lift boxes of instructional materials, equipment, and student belongings.
- Ability to supervise in various settings (classroom, hallways, playground, cafeteria, field trips).
- Ability to work in a standard school environment, which may include exposure to moderate noise levels, outdoor weather conditions, and occasional exposure to cleaning agents and allergens.
Terms of Employment:
190 days per school year; Salary based on District Scale for Teachers

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Certified Staff.
