About the Role:

The Multidisciplinary Program - Special Education Teacher provides specialized instruction and
support to students with significant medical, physical, and developmental needs. This position
collaborates closely with nursing staff, related service providers, families, and administrators to
ensure students receive a safe, inclusive, and individualized educational program aligned with
their IEPs and medical care plans.

Duties and Responsibilities:
● Design and implement individualized, standards-aligned instruction for students with
complex medical and physical needs
● Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in
compliance with state and federal regulations
● Adapt curriculum, materials, and instructional strategies to meet diverse learning,
physical, and sensory needs
● Provide instruction in academic, functional, and life skills as appropriate
● Work collaboratively with school nurses, medical providers, and families to support
students’ health and safety needs
● Implement instructional plans in alignment with students’ medical care plans and
emergency protocols
● Support safe participation in classroom activities, transitions, and school routines
● Maintain awareness of medical equipment, positioning, feeding, mobility, and sensory
needs (training provided as appropriate)
● Collaborate with related service providers (PT, OT, SLP, counselors, psychologists, etc.)
to deliver integrated services
● Participate actively in team meetings, case consultations, and problem-solving
discussions
● Communicate regularly and effectively with families regarding student progress and
needs
● Support inclusion opportunities when appropriate, in collaboration with general education
staff
● Maintain accurate documentation of student progress, service delivery, and data
collection
● Ensure compliance with IDEA, state special education regulations, and district policies
● Contribute to evaluations, progress reports, and transition planning as required
● Create a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment
● Supervise and collaborate with paraprofessionals and classroom support staff
● Promote student dignity, independence, and self-advocacy
● Utilize assistive technology and adaptive equipment as needed

● Performs other duties assigned by the building Principal, Director of Special Services
and/or the Superintendent of Schools


Qualifications:
● Massachusetts DESE licensure in Special Education (Severe Licensure)
● Knowledge of special education laws and regulations
● Familiarity with assistive technology, AAC, and adaptive equipment
● Training or experience in functional academics and life skills instruction
● Experience collaborating closely with nursing and medical staff
● Experience working with students with significant disabilities and/or complex medical
needs preferred
● Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills
● Ability to respond calmly and effectively in medically sensitive situations


Physical Requirements
● Ability to support students with physical needs, including lifting, positioning, and mobility
assistance (with training and supports provided)
● Ability to respond to medical emergencies according to established protocols
