SUMMARY This position provides instruction to students and performs a wide variety of tasks with curriculum planning, supervision, presenting and reinforcing learning concepts, and teaching children in a classroom setting.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess an Illinois Professional Educator License with an LBS1 endorsement.
- Must be familiar with the use of computers including but not limited to electronic mail, the Internet, word processing, and electronic spreadsheets (Google).
- Establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with those contacted in the course of work (students, parents, and staff).
- Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate to students, parents and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Case management
- Case manages a caseload of students by writing the IEP from the evaluation information, communicating with family, related service providers, and students about how to best support this student, maintain the records and data collection to complete progress reports required at the time that general education students receive their district feedback, and manage and ensure all components of the IEP are being carried out within the daily schedule at school.
- Schedule and facilitate/lead the annual reviews for the IEP meetings.
- In K-1, a special education teacher may serve as a 504 plan coordinator in addition to their special education teaching responsibilities
- Provide oversight to paraprofessionals who are implementing IEP strategies, billing for Medicaid services, or require problem solving with a solution focus.
- Assists in providing information regarding individual disabilities of students during evaluations/reevaluations, with the assistance of District specialists.
Teaching/Planning
- Teaches District approved curriculum. Adapt and modify curriculum to meet individual needs.
- Support co-teaching in the general education classroom as student needs indicate.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
- Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
- Plans a program of study, employing a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
- Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
- Recognizes and makes provisions for meeting individual differences among students.
- Demonstrates adequate knowledge and competency in his/her teaching field.
- Uses a variety of educational tools to effectively evaluate strengths and weaknesses of classes, small groups, and individuals.
- Evaluates academic and social growth of students, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulations.
