QUALIFICATIONS:
- REQUIRED Massachusetts licensure: Teacher of Students with Severe Disabilities, All Levels (Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities 5-12 may be considered).
- Transition Specialist Endorsement Preferred
- SEI endorsement, preferred.
- Master's degree with an emphasis in Special Education preferred.
- Safety Care training preferred or willing to be trained.
- Experience with the use of specialized teaching techniques used with special education students.
- Ability to design or modify curriculum, instructional materials, and classroom environments for students with disabilities at the high school level.
- Ability to implement behavioral management strategies.
- Proficiency in— Social Skills, Life Skills, Pre-Vocational instruction/training, travel training, community safety skills, self-determination/advocacy
- Such other alternatives as the Superintendent of Schools/Director of Student Services may deem acceptable and appropriate.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement individualized academic programming for students with moderate to severe disabilities in alignment with IEP goals and Curriculum Standards.
- Complete evaluation and progress reports, educational plan information, and other data required by local, state, and federal guidelines.
- Deliver instruction across a wide range of academic levels using differentiated teaching strategies and multiple instructional modalities, including visual, auditory, technology-based, and hands-on learning approaches.
- Adapt curriculum materials, assessments, and instructional methods to meet diverse cognitive, communication, behavioral, and learning needs.
- Provide direct instruction in functional academics, literacy, mathematics, communication, executive functioning, and life skills within a high school setting.
- Utilize evidence-based practices, assistive technology, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems to support student learning and engagement.
- Collect, analyze, and maintain data on student progress toward academic and IEP objectives to inform instruction and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with related service providers, general education teachers, paraprofessionals, families, and community agencies to support student success across settings.
- Create and maintain a structured, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes independence, self-advocacy, and positive behavioral supports.
- Modify and scaffold instruction to support students participating in inclusion opportunities, vocational experiences, and community-based learning activities.
- Collaborate with Post-Secondary lead teachers in the development and maintain partnerships with community businesses and organizations to provide students with disabilities meaningful, supervised opportunities to build vocational, job-readiness, and career exploration skills in alignment with students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Lead the development and implementation of transition planning services, including conducting age-appropriate transition assessments, contributing to Transition Planning Forms (TPFs), and supporting measurable postsecondary goals related to education/training, employment, and independent living.
- Collaborate with families, related service providers, adult service agencies, and community partners to support successful transitions to postsecondary opportunities and continuity of services beyond high school.
- Assist general education teachers as needed in the implementation of modifications for inclusionary practices.
- Guide and direct teaching assistants to facilitate programming for students in the school and in the community.
- Support inclusionary practices to ensure student participation is in the least restrictive and meaningful school environments.
- Other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal, Asst. Principal and/or Special Education Building Administrator.
SALARY: In accordance with FEA Unit A Contract
