ANTICIPATED Position for 26/27 School Year

 

Pay Grade:  Certified Instructional Scale            Period of Employment:  11 months

 

Description Approved/Revised: 4/2026           FLSA Status:  Exempt

 

Supervised by and/or Reports to:  Supervisor of Procedural Support and Compliances.

 

General Responsibilities: Assist in supervising and monitoring student needs and assists the administrative team in leadership roles that encompass special education processes and procedures. This position assists with the supervision of the special education instructional program, and participates in staff, student, and parent activities.

 

Essential Duties:

  • Works effectively with peer leaders, supervisors, and administrators.
  • Responds to parent inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to special education teachers, paraprofessionals, and other staff.
  • Monitors the operation of special education programs and services.
  • Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, including Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Coordinates, facilitates, and/or participates in professional development and learning for site and district staff.
  • Provides technical assistance, modeling, observation, and feedback to teachers and staff.
  • Works closely with students, parents, and educators to develop and execute all special education related processes.
  • Assists with all special education meetings and ensures that all special education processes are implemented with fidelity.
  • Serves as a liaison between the special education department, school administration, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintains accurate records and documentation related to special education programs and services.
  • Analyzes data to monitor student progress and identify areas for improvement in special education programs.
  • Serves as a resource for principals, teachers, and other staff regarding special education practices and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Possess knowledge of and be able to use relevant technology.
  • Serves as a role model.

Requisite Education and Experience:

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License with endorsements in Special Education.
  • Endorsement in Administration and Supervision PreK-12 preferred.
  • Must possess a minimum of (5) years of special education teaching experience.

Physical Requirements:

 

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls.  Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions. Some heavy work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally to move objects may be required.
