Position Purpose
Under the General Supervision of the Special Education Teacher or Principal, to work one-on-one or in small groups with students.

Essential Functions

  • Works under the direct supervision of a teacher.
  • Implement schedules and routines developed by the teacher.
  • Contacts parents as directed by the teacher.
  • Works with small groups under the direction of teacher
  • Completes routine daily clerical tasks as directed by the teacher.
  • Maintains positive communications with parents with support of the teacher.
  • Collects and records data.
  • Supports the teacher in the implementation of the classroom management plan.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Works with students using various techniques as instructed by the Special Education Teacher,        classroom teachers, and the Principal.
  • Helps students work towards Individual Education Plan goals in educational and other areas as designed.
  • Accompany students to regular education classes as necessary.
  • Facilitate student learning through modifications in instructions, assignments, and assessments as directed by the Special Education teacher or regular classroom teacher.
  • Performs duties as assigned by the Principal or Special Education teacher.
  • Drive students to outside services as needed.

 

Additional Duties

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Special Education Teacher or Principal

Equipment

Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

 

Travel Requirements

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required

 

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

Works in a standard school building environment. Must be able to stand for long periods and lift 5 lbs.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • High School graduate, equivalent.
  • Ability to perform job responsibilities.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to follow directions from Supervisor.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with co-workers, students, and school personnel.
  • Demonstrate reliability in all work situations.
  • Present a professional appearance in the work area.
  • Promote and maintain positive working relationships with peers, students, and the public.
  • Be knowledgeable about the job. Person will be required to pass a paraprofessionals exam, within 90 days of hire.
  • Acquire a CDE substitute teachers license.
  • Always strive to stay on task and produce high-quality work.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information regarding students.
