Fort Leavenworth USD 207Job Title: Speech-Language Pathologist (2027-28 School Year)
Purpose: The Speech-Language Pathologist evaluates and provides direct student and consultative services to staff/parents for students eligible for special education evaluations/services in the area of speech-language pathology.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology/Communication Disorders
- Valid Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services Speech Language Pathologist License
- Knowledge of the federal, state, and local legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures that mandate and guide speech therapy practices
- Ability to interpret evaluation data, document, and write comprehensive reports following guidelines
- Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate respectfully and compassionately to a child and their family
- Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the District Office (after an employment offer is made)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience as a Speech Language Pathologist in a school setting
Reports to: Building Principal and Assistant Superintendent of Student Services
FLSA Status: Exempt- Salaried based on the Fort Leavenworth Negotiated Agreement Salary Schedule
Essential Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily:
- Conduct Speech-Language Pathology screenings and write comprehensive diagnostic evaluations according to established state and federal professional standards and procedures
- Participate in multidisciplinary team conferences and planning sessions in order to meet the continuing needs of identified students or those at risk
- Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for identified students
- Provide direct and indirect Speech-Language Pathology services using a variety of service delivery models within a collaborative team to address the speech and language needs of the student
- Complete documentation through progress notes and quarterly reports that specify student progress on IEP goals and objectives
- Work collaboratively with teachers and parents to ensure a unified approach to school-related issues
- Provide training to teachers, parents, instructional assistants, paraeducators, and other related service personnel to ensure their effective contribution to a child’s IEP
- Serve on various district, school, or staff committees as appropriate, such as SIT
- Attend all staff conferences and individual conferences between teacher and administrator and is available for pupil and parent conferences, including conferences for writing IEPs and staffing for special education
- Travel locally using own transportation
- Observe, enforce, and is directed by the policies, rules, and regulations adopted by the school district and adhere to strict professional ethics
- Undertake efforts that promote professional growth in alignment with the District’s vision, mission, and goals, and keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas, and techniques in Speech Therapy
- Work to help ensure student achievement and build positive school/community relations
- Regular and consistent attendance at work
- Carry out the duties and responsibilities as assigned by the administration

- Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height

- Climb stairs, walk, and reach overhead
Terms of Employment: 187-day contract under the Fort Leavenworth Negotiated Agreement
Evaluation: Performance evaluations in accordance with the Board’s policy and the Fort Leavenworth Negotiated Agreement
