QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have all of the requirements of R 340.1782, a teacher consultant shall meet both of the following requirements for full approval by the department:
- Possess a Master’s Degree in education or a field of study related to special education
- Show evidence of a minimum of 3 years satisfactory teaching experience, not less than 2 years of which shall be teaching in a special education program.
- Responsibility of employee to obtain and maintain all training(s), certificate(s), approval(s), etc. and provide documentation to the business office before the expiration date of said document(s).
- Must be able to lift 20 lbs.
- Required to have a physical presence at the designated job site each scheduled work day.
- Must have regular and reliable job attendance, performance and the physical ability to do the job.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide technical assistance and coaching to teachers (special education and general education), ancillary staff, and building administrators in the delivery of special education services.
- Provide technical assistance (such as accommodations and modifications) to assist participation of students eligible for special education within the general curriculum.
- Consult with special education teachers and ancillary staff regarding the required components of special education as described in IDEA and MARSE, including but not limited to the identification of student strengths and needs, the development of Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP), goals and objectives, supplemental aids and services, Extended School Year Services, services and programming, district and state assessments, transition planning and documentation on Notice).
- Consult with special education teachers regarding ongoing teacher assessment of their students as required by IDEA (such as data collection and analysis, progress monitoring, documentation of implementation of accommodations and modifications, and development of measurable and meaningful goals and objectives).
- Assist with building level transitions and IEP change of placements.
- Assist special education teachers and ancillary staff with the components and requirements of the electronic IEP system.
- Assist new special education teachers and non-certified teachers in the development and facilitation of the IEP including, as appropriate, attendance at the meeting.
- Participate in building meetings as requested by ISD Supervisor or local building administrator within assigned districts.
- Assist in implementation of classroom/building strategies and intervention developed and recommended at the student assistant team meeting.
- Serve as the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) Representative in non-public placements and the Juvenile Day Treatment (JDT) Program.
- Responsible for the development and implementation of Non Public Service Plans (NPSP).
- Assist ISD and local district staff in completing the transfer-in process for students with IEPs including obtaining and interpreting previous educational records.
- Provide in-service (Professional Development) and training to ISD and local district staff in collaboration with supervisor(s)/monitor or building administrator(s) to meet the educational needs of students with IEPs.
- Participate in learning opportunities to stay current with the research and best practices of education.
- Demonstrates professional communication skills including reflective listening.
- Ability to interact effectively with individuals from a wide range of cultures.
- Effectively present information in front of groups and engage audience.
- Works in a team-oriented fashion.
- Ability to efficiently use computer and applicable software.
