Miles River Middle School is seeking to add a Special Education Teacher for the
Therapeutic Learning Center in a 6-8 comprehensive middle school setting. The TLC
provides academic support and strategies development to support social/emotional/behavioral
challenges through trauma informed practices, allowing for optimal access to the general
education learning environment. Support for students is provided within the general education
classroom and/or other areas of the school community, as needed. Students have the
opportunity for support within the therapeutic learning center classroom as well. Students within
the TLC Program are supported by a School Counselor. Counseling is provided
through group and individual services.
Responsibilities include:
● Working directly with students' to support academic, social/emotional and behavioral
challenges that interfere with their access to the general education curriculum, impact
social development and their emotional well-being
● Development and implementation of behavior plans and therapeutic interventions
● Consultation with classroom teachers
● Provision of direct academic instruction as outlined in student IEPs
● Supervision of Educational Support Personnel assigned to the TLC and students
● Ongoing parent communication
● Conduct academic achievement evaluations for initial eligibility and reevaluations, as
assigned
● Facilitate annual review meetings
