Location: North Godwin Elementary, Godwin Heights Public Schools, Wyoming, MI

GHPS seeks a compassionate and dedicated Special Education Paraprofessional to support flexible programs and classroom environments that promote both academic growth and personal development. The ideal candidate will build strong relationships with students, motivate them to develop essential skills, and collaborate effectively with parents, staff, and administrators.

Special Ed. Paraprofessional Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional support.
  • Review and reinforce lesson plans as directed by the teacher.
  • Prepare and utilize instructional materials and teaching aids.
  • Assist students individually or in small groups to reinforce concepts and skills.
  • Monitor student progress and document data as requested.
  • Support students’ social, emotional, and behavioral growth.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure the confidentiality of student information.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of computers/technology to support learning.
  • Apply basic knowledge of disability areas and special education practices.
  • Work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree, 60+ college credits, or qualifying paraprofessional assessment preferred.
  • Experience working with children, preferably in an educational or youth-centered setting.
  • Strong communication skills, patience, and ability to build positive student relationships.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and supporting diverse learners.

Education and/or Experience                                                    

Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college.
Paraprofessional Praxis Assessment Test

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, and hear (in a quiet or noisy environment). The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust/focus.

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate.  Work is performed indoors, although some outdoor activities may be required.  The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.

Mental Functions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing in the English language, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, and compile and negotiate.
