Title: 1 on 1 Special Education Paraprofessional  

 

 

Qualifications: 

  1. High School Diploma  
  2. 36 Hours of College and/or passed ParaPro assessment 
  3. Must hold a Substitute Certificate from DESE

 

Reports To: Building Principal

 

Job Goal: 

To assist the student in learning the appropriate subject matter, skills and/or attitudes that will contribute to their development as responsible citizens and learners. 

 

Performance Objectives: 

  1. Provides individual one on one educational support under the supervision of teachers and administrative staff.
  2. Provides direct caregiving services under the supervision of teachers and staff.
  3. Supports communication and language development skills through encouragement of use of communication devices and tools, translation of needs and information between student and others
  4. Reinforces classroom management as directed by the teacher.
  5. Supervises student(s) in non-classroom settings such as lunchroom, playground supervision, bus arrival and dismissal.
  6. Supports compliance with IEPs and other student management systems.
  7. Maintains confidentiality of information about students and employees.
  8. Participates in appropriate in-service training and willingness to learn communication devices and tools that are utilized by the student to facilitate communication
  9. Provides support to maintain standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere
  10. Comply with federal, state, local, and Board of Education policies and regulations
  11. Other professional duties as may be assigned by the Principal

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

Employment is on an annual basis.  The Building Principal makes employment recommendations in March of each year for the next fiscal year.  The final decision is made by the Board of Education.  Salary is based on the Classified Salary Schedule adopted annually by the Board of Education.

 

EVALUATION

 

An annual evaluation is conducted by the Building Principal using the evaluation method adopted by the Board of Education.
