Primary Purpose:

To assist the Library Information Specialist, teachers and students in the effective use of the Library Learning Commons as a learning resource space.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • High school graduate or GED
  • Qualifies for appropriate state paraprofessional certification

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to operate personal computer and educational software
  • Ability to work with students and teachers effectively
  • Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Keyboarding ability
  • Demonstrate aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities
  • Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills

 

Experience:

  • Three (3) year(s) experience working

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Program Management

  • Help teachers and students locate both print and no-print materials.
  • Maintain day-to-day circulation of materials using library management software.
  • Organize and shelve materials.
  • Input student, staff and parent data into automated Library Circulation System.
  • Understand and operate the management component of the Library Circulation software.
  • Assist and train students in finding books using the online library catalog.
  • Assist students doing research in the library by helping them use the library databases.
  • Enter materials acquisitions data.
  • Does troubleshooting maintenance of campus hardware (i.e.) audio visual equipment and current technology such as data projectors, document cameras, etc.
  • Demonstrate/operate appropriate technology when requested by students or staff, (i.e.) computers, network navigation, video delivery, presentation equipment, etc.
  • Print overdue lists, barcodes, and bibliographies.
  • Process books for student and teacher use.
  • Read to students and assist or teach library classes under the supervision of the Library Information Specialist.
  • Create and maintain proper storage of media and equipment.
  • Maintain LLC bulletin boards and displays.
  • Collect and handles money for lost books, fees and book fairs.
  • Promote an inviting learning environment while monitoring student behavior in the library.
  • Manage the Library Learning Commons and library classes in the absence of the LIS due to campus meetings, collaborations, co-teaching etc.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.

 

Clerical Support

  • Create a variety of documents on the computer for faculty and staff.
  • Operate the copier and other machinery located in the workroom/office suites.
  • Sort and distribute campus mail.
  • Store supplies for campus use.
  • Order supplies and keep stock filled.
  • Return work to faculty in a timely manner.
  • Work with faculty in a courteous manner.
  • Cover for other staff members as assigned by administration.

Other

  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
  • Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • None

 

Evaluation:

  • Performance in this role is evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Instructional Paraprofessional Personnel.

 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals

Posture: Standing, prolonged sitting, occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; may also require climbing stairs and reaching over head

Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); May require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds)

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent district wide travel; all campuses are temperature controlled with hard surface floors

Pay Grade:ISP2  

2024-2025 Salary Range Min. $23,175 Mid. $27,405 Max. $31,634  (Based on previous experience) 

2025-2026 Salary schedule with 3% of midpoint increase approved by the Board. Salary schedule soon to be released.
