    1. TITLE:  3B Detention Center Paraprofessional 
       
    2. QUALIFICATIONS: 
      1. Minimum of 48 core college credits or a passing score of 457 on the ParaPro Praxis.  
      2. Ability to work cooperatively with school and county personnel.
      3. Ability to work with staff, students, police officers, and the public.
      4. Previous experience preferred working with juveniles.
      5. Ability to work in the Juvenile Detention Center environment.
      6. Self-starter.
      7. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
         
    3. REPORTS TO:  Emerson Building Administrator. 
       
    4. JOB GOALS: 
      To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement.

      To provide educational support to all residential students, education staff members and police officers at the 3B Education Center.
       
    5. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
      1. Gives support to all students who are completing assignments that have been provided by their home school.
      2. Assists students in learning new information and completing assignments while working on block credits.
      3. Prepares educational materials as instructed by the education staff.
      4. Helps coordinate and monitor testing.
      5. Phones schools and teachers to obtain daily work for residential students as directed by the education staff.
      6. Works one-on-one with special needs students with IEPs.
      7. Helps organize and teach the PE and art programs.
      8. Picks up and delivers residential students’ schoolwork from the home schools as requested.
      9. Provides support for the maintenance of school records, grading of papers and recording of grades as needed.
      10. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
      11. Has regular and predictable attendance.
         
    6. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
      1. Performs all other duties as assigned.
         
    7. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 
      This is a full-time position scheduled for 7 hours per day during the school year. Benefits will be in accordance with approved Board policy.  Wages will be in accordance with the Classified Salary Schedule as a Grade 5 - $15.91or $16.69 per hour depending on experience.

      This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law.  The “employment at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91.
       
    8. EVALUATION:
      Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the 3B Education Center Administrator in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.

      This position has been given an overall physical classification of light duty.
