About The Role

To provide high quality, specially designed instruction of organized adaptive physical education for students with disabilities. This role will focus on students with ASD, SCI, SEI and moderately cognitive impairments at Freedom Acres as well as other ISD operated programs in other locations. The right candidate will plan recreational activities on a classroom basis that take into account individual needs and capabilities of the student, LRE considerations, community resources, carry-over potential outside the school setting and involvement of general education students in planned activities.

Qualifications Desired

  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with SP (Physical Education for Students with Disabilities) and MX or MB (Physical Education) endorsements
  • Must meet the requirements for teachers of students requiring adaptive physical education under the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (R. 340.1797)
  • Competency in the content area of service as well as knowledge of IEP development related to the area of Adaptive PE
  • Interpersonal skills which promote positive personal relationships with students, parents, staff and community is required
