    Alternative Learning Center Special Education Teacher - Extended School Year

     

     

    We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our new Alternate Learning Center, which supports students in grades 6-12 to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Deliver engaging specialized instruction aligned to core content areas as per student IEPs.
    • Support students in re-engaging with school by fostering a structured, respectful, and relationship-centered classroom environment.
    • Differentiate instruction to meet a wide range of academic levels, including students who are over-age/under-credit or returning from disciplinary placements
    • Develop and implement individualized plans aligned to IEP goals and graduation requirements, incorporating flexible pacing and alternative assessment methods.
    • Collaborate with school counselors, administrators, and support staff to address academic, attendance, and behavioral barriers to student success.
    • Build positive, consistent relationships with students and families to promote accountability, motivation, and persistence.
    • Maintain compliance with IDEA regulations to support equitable education for students with disabilities, including implementation of IEPs, documentation, and required accommodations and modifications.
    • Implement safety interventions when necessary.
    • Contribute to a team-based approach focused on helping students successfully transition back to their home school, graduate, or pursue post-secondary options.

     

    Qualifications/Competencies Required Education and/or Experience:

    • Demonstrated ability to remain focused and productive in high-demand situations.
    • Knowledge of strong, validated, evidenced-based intervention programs
    • A minimum of 5 years successful teaching experience preferred but not required
    • Well-developed oral, written and speaking skills

     

    Certifications/Licenses/Registrations Required:

    • Connecticut certification with the appropriate endorsement for Special Education Teacher 165 or 065 or be immediately eligible for appropriate Connecticut Certification endorsement for Special Education Teacher
