Salary Range: $ 51,181.58 - $95,726.51       Hours per week: Full Time - FTE 1.0

 

General Statement:  This position will provide direct service to the needs of special education students; evaluate students for special education eligibility;  provide a summary of formal and informal assessments; attend evaluation team meetings; administer a variety of standardized tests as well as observe student(s) to determine current levels of performance.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and implement research-based specially designed instruction (SDI) tailored to meet the unique needs of students with mild and moderate disabilities.
  • Adapt general education secondary curricula to ensure students can access the grade-level content while meeting their specific IEP goals.
  • Evaluates students for special education eligibility. 
  • Partner with general education teachers in an inclusion setting to provide push-in SDI and ensure the implementation of accommodations in the general classroom.
  • Provides direct service to the needs of special education students. 
  • Oversee and provide case management of secondary students, ensuring all legal timelines for annual reviews and three-year re-evaluations are met.
  • Prepares reports of formal and informal assessments. 
  • Attends and participates in evaluation team meetings. 
  • Develop comprehensive IEPs, including Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP) and measurable annual goals.
  • Facilitate IEP meetings with parents, administrators, and related service providers (SLPs, OTs, etc.).
  • Coordinate with students and families to develop transition plans that focus on post-secondary education, vocational training, and independent living.
  • Implement and monitor BIPs for students, utilizing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to maintain a productive learning environment.
  • Manage escalated classroom situations with approved de-escalation techniques, prioritizing student safety and dignity.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Experience:
    • Knowledge of secondary school education.
    • Case Management; ability to write IEPs and conduct evaluations
    • Must be able to provide direct service to students both in and out of the classroom. 
    • Must be able to physically provide classroom control.
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Certification & Licensing:
    • Must meet the current RI Department of Education requirements for certification in Special Education grades 7-12.
  • Authorized to work in the USA
  • Current national background check without disqualifying results at time of hire.
