Primary Purpose:
Assist the Band Director in the management of the overall program of instrumental music for the district. Provide students with an opportunity to participate in extracurricular band activities and ensure compliance with all state, University Interscholastic League (UIL), and district requirements. Plan activities to achieve district, region, and state recognition.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of overall operation of instrumental music program
Knowledge of state and UIL policies governing band
Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data
Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Two years teaching experience preferred

General

Program Planning
- Under the direction of the Band Director, direct instrumental performers, including marching band, orchestra, concert band, soloists, and ensembles.
- Assist with the establishment of performance requirements, enforcement of academic requirements, and verification of each student’s eligibility to participate in band.
- Provide for band participation at extracurricular events, including concerts, football games, pep rallies, parades, and UIL activities.
- Assist with arrangements for transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town events.
- Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, UIL rules, and board policy in the band area.
- Support band booster club activities.
- Assist Band Director in evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responds to student needs.
Budget and Inventory
- Assist the Band Director in compiling budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
- Assist in the coordination of fundraising activities and management of funds.
- Maintain current inventory of all fixed assets within department.
- Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all band equipment.
Instruction
- Assist the Band Director in all teaching responsibilities, including duties as assigned before and after the regular school day.
- Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Develop and Implement lesson plans and activities through distance or virtual learning to fulfill the requirements of district curriculum and show written evidence of preparation, as required. Prepare lessons in instructional formats that accommodate differences in individual student needs.
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
Student Management
- Apply and enforce student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Accompany and supervise students on in-town and out-of-town trips.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Communication
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Maintain professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Communicate with students or parents on a regular basis as directed by the Principal to ensure that weekly lessons and activity plans are effectively communicated and monitored to ensure student progress.
- Attend all campus events/activities as directed by the campus administration.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
