The Elementary Special Education Teacher provides specialized instruction and support to students with identified disabilities in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This position collaborates with general education teachers, related service providers, administrators, and families to ensure students achieve academic, social, and behavioral success in an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide direct instruction to elementary students with disabilities using evidence-based instructional strategies.
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Assess student progress and adjust instructional practices to meet individual student needs.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion and differentiated instruction.
- Participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including progress reports, evaluations, and compliance records.
- Implement behavior intervention plans and support positive behavior strategies.
- Coordinate with related service providers (e.g., speech, occupational therapy, counseling).
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and needs.
- Ensure a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment for all students.
- Adhere to district policies, procedures, and professional standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Valid state teaching certification in Special Education (elementary level).
- Knowledge of special education laws and regulations (IDEA, Section 504).
- Experience working with elementary-aged students with diverse learning needs preferred.
- Strong classroom management, organization, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
