This position is a grade 117 on the salary schedule. Placement range: $24.50 to $28.00 per hour.
The Communications & Marketing Specialist / Spanish Translator & Interpreter plays a vital dual role in shaping the public image of the district while ensuring equitable access to information for Spanish-speaking staff and families. This position requires creativity in developing compelling content, technical skill in managing digital communication tools, and linguistic fluency in Spanish and English to provide high-quality translation and interpretation services. The specialist supports both district-wide communications and serves as a liaison between schools and Spanish-speaking communities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Marketing & Communications
? Plan, develop, and manage communications and marketing campaigns that support district goals.
? Write, edit, and publish engaging content for newsletters, press releases, websites, and social media.
? Collaborate with schools and departments to ensure alignment with district branding and messaging.
? Assist with photo/video coverage of district events and manage visual assets.
? Update website content and manage email campaigns using content management and communication systems.
? Analyze metrics (website, email, and social media) to improve outreach strategies.
? Support all phases of district events — planning, setup, execution, and breakdown.
? Contribute to strategies that build positive public perception and awareness of the district.
Spanish Translation & Interpretation
? Translates written documents, including emails, forms, letters, notices, recipes and nutrition information, academic materials, newsletters, and program materials
? Translates and interprets due process items to include IEPs/504s, disciplinary hearings, Exceptional Student Services meetings, informational sessions, and training conferences
? Provides great customer service to District staff and community
? Stay informed about updates in policies, language translation best practices, and technological tools relevant to the role
? Prepares materials for publication and reads materials to detect errors in spelling, punctuation, etc.
? Attends school and District community meetings as required for interpretive responsibilities, interpreting consecutively and/or simultaneously
? Have reliable transportation to regularly commute between District sites and work flexible hours to occasionally accommodate evening and weekend events and meetings
? Additional duties as assigned
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
? High School Diploma or GED
? Native or near-native fluency in both spoken and written English and Spanish
? Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Google Workspace, and social media platforms.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
? Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, English, Spanish, Linguistics, or related field in K-12 education or nonprofit communications
? 2+ years of experience in marketing, public relations, or translation/interpretation preferred. Experience in an educational, medical, or legal setting
? Certification in interpretation or translation
? Familiarity with IEP/504 processes and terminology
? Understanding of SEO, content marketing, and engagement analytics
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
? Department organization, methods, standards and practices.
? Marketing principles, techniques, and best practices (digital and traditional)
? Content marketing, SEO/SEM, and social media strategies
Skilled in:
? High-level translation and interpretation of English and Spanish
? Developing compelling content for various platforms (blogs, social media, email)
? Graphic design, photography, and video editing (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)
? Regular interpretation in front of large audiences (50-100 people)
? Using marketing automation tools (e.g., HubSpot, Marketo)
Ability to:
? Interface effectively with other departments, school personnel, other maintenance staff, and business contacts from outside of the District
? Demonstrate fluency in both spoken and written English and Spanish, including the ability to accurately interpret and translate complex information, conduct clear and effective communication, and understand nuanced language and cultural contexts in both languages
? Align marketing efforts with organizational goals
