District Athletic Director

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Valid Arizona State Secondary Teaching Certificate for secondary education.
  2. Master’s Degree preferred.
  3. Valid Arizona State Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  4. Knowledge of coaching high and middle sports.
  5. Three years of successful experience as a high school coach preferred.
  6. Five years of classroom teaching experience preferred.

JOB GOALS

 

To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women.  To provide each student with a variety of extra-curricular athletic programs, activities and events from which to choose for personal recreation, enrichment and value information.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Organizes and administers the overall program of extracurricular athletics and interscholastic activities.
  1. Establishes and maintains the athletic master calendar (old high school gym, SAC gym, athletic fields, Middle School fields and gym).
  1. Assumes responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all interscholastic athletic events, communicates on a weekly basis with the principal about the overall program.
  1. Fosters good school-community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the needs of the athletic program.
  1. Provides leadership in selection, assignment and evaluation of athletic staff.
  1. Hires officials, athletic workers and security as required, and assumes general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games.
  1. Assumes responsibility for all payments and timesheets for all game staff and Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) officials for the High School and Middle School events, and verifies assignments of game officials with AIA.
  1. Develops master schedule for all sports teams and programs at the Middle School and High School and makes scheduling with and in accordance with AIA regulations and bylaws.
  2. Establishes the physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport and on a bi-weekly basis verifies with teachers for grade checks for each athlete’s eligibility.
  1. Develops and plans into operations appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities.
  1. Enforces discipline and sportsmanship behavior at all times and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
  1. Arranges and approves playing fields, gym facilities and practices, and non-school use in coordination with school principals and district safety coordinator.
  1. Holds monthly meetings with coaches of all sports.
  1. Oversees the safety conditions of the facilities or areas in which assigned sports are conducted and reports needed repairs to the principal.
  1. Proposes and administers the athletic program budget and processes requisitions and purchase orders for program supplies and equipment.
  1. Plans, coordinates, supervises all ticket sales and fundraising events of the athletic program, counts, and assumes responsibility for proper handling of funds.
  1. Reconciles all materials for tickets sales and secures monies after events for nightly deposits to the bank.
  1. Assumes responsibility for all clerical and bookkeeping functions within the athletic departments.
  1. Files correspondence, invoices, and maintains ledger files and other records of athletic expenditures and receipts in a prescribed manner, depending upon the practice of the department.
  1. Processes travel and vehicle requests for the athletic department.
  1. Arranges provisions for meals for athletes, coaches and staff when overnight trips are necessary i.e. for State tournaments.
  1. Keeps records of the results of all athletic contests, maintains a record file for all award winners indicating dates and types of awards, including athletic scholarships, and communicates records to the principals.
  1. Plans and supervises seasonal recognition program for school athletes.
  1. Arranges the needs of all details for visiting teams such as towels, gymnasium services and field assistance as appropriate.
  1. Meets with vendors regarding sports photographs as well as team sport pictures.
  1. Distributes verified student traveling list and itinerary to the administration, transportation, District personnel, administrators on duty and teachers.
  1. Attends all AIA conference meetings as well as Northern Athletic Association meetings for Middle school.
  1. Performs such other duties as assigned by supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

Eleven and one-half (11.5) months a year 245 workdays.  Certified Exempt Salary Schedule at Grade 4.   The Governing Board will establish salary and work year.
