JOB TITLE: Early Childhood Special Education Teacher

CLASSIFICATION: Professional

REPORTS TO: Early Childhood Special Services Supervisor

SUPERVISES: Not applicable

TERMS:
This position is a 205 total paid days position offering full family medical, dental, and vision benefits. Dental, vision, and life insurance are paid by the district at no cost to the employee. Vacation, personal business days, holidays and sick time paid. Retirement through the Office of Retirement Services (Pension Plus or Defined Contribution).

SALARY RANGE:
This position is on the School Year Professional Scale, $57399.01- 87339.02 per year. This is on the BA Lane, lanes available for BA+20, MA, MA+30, MA+60/PHD.

 

GENERAL JOB FUNCTION:

The Early Childhood Special Education Teacher will deliver a range of services to young children and their families. Most services are provided in the context of a family and community based environment. Primary duties shall include service coordination of

special education services for children and their families in the form of home visiting and

community playgroups.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Conducts assessments and reports as required for compliance following the MDE

Early On state plan.

2. Conducts assigned home visits to reinforce program goals and objectives;

offers families specific training and required support services. Provides

service coordination services of qualified children as needed.

3. Prepares and properly submits assigned assessments and reports.

4. Notes any perceived problems or issues and notifies program staff.

5. Supports the development and maintenance of a nurturing and supportive home

environment.

6. Oversees service delivery as required by MARSE rule 1862.

7. Assists other team members with community playgroups.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor’s degree required. Michigan teaching certificate with at least one

endorsement in special education and a ZA endorsement or a ZS endorsement.

2. Experience working with families of infants and toddlers.

3. Ability to travel within the county

4. No physical or mental restrictions that would, with reasonable accommodation,

prevent performance of the essential job functions and responsibilities.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Successful completion of the Essentials of Early On Training and trained in

assessment tools used, including the Infant Toddler Developmental Assessment

(IDA)

2. Ability to work and communicate effectively with program staff, parents and other

Professionals

NOTABLE PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Occasional lifting of light to moderately heavy equipment is required. The ability to move freely about the community is also a common requirement.

TYPICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Most work is done in a family home or community playgroup.

Employees in this classification are evaluated according to Board policy.

WORK LOCATION(S):

Most work is performed in community-based locations.

TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS:

Frequent travel in the area is required. Some travel is necessary within the state for conferences, meetings, etc.
