ECSE Paraprofessional – Koepsell Early Childhood Center
Work hours: 5 days per week, hours based on student need (currently 7 hours/day)
Job Goal: To work closely with pre-school age children with special needs in an effort to provide them with the help and support they need to progress toward selected goals.
Qualifications Include:
- High School diploma and 18 years of age at time of application.
- Associates Degree or successful passage of approved assessments, preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work well with preschool-age children with special needs.
- Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 40 lbs.
- Such alternatives as the Superintendent may find acceptable and appropriate.
Job Requirements (May include but are not limited to):
- Supervise students in the restroom when monitoring gross motor play outside of the classroom. Support with bathrooming, toilet training, diaper changes, etc.
- Support with transition of students within the classroom and school building – may include use of verbal, gestural, and/or partial physical prompts.
- Assist with snack – opening containers, preparing water cups, etc., monitor students at tables and with food items.
- Copy, laminate, cut out, organize, and/or distribute instructional materials.
- Ability to stand and/or walk for long periods of time.
- Ability to bend and/or sit on the floor while interacting with children. Must be able to get back up off the floor without risking injury.
- Ability to withstand various outside weather conditions while supervising children at play and/or walking them to/from parent/guardian.
- Support with Augmentative and Alternative Communication needs of students, following directions of ECSE Teacher and SLP.
- Assist in managing student discipline and behavioral needs, reinforcing program expectations and collaborating with staff to support student well-being.
- Ability to follow the lead of and work collaboratively with the ECSE Teacher; follow directives provided by the ECSE Teacher including specific language models, task assignments, etc.
- Assist with cleaning of toys and furniture after child use.
- Help preschool age children on to or off the bus – may include un/buckling, assisting up or down the stairs, etc.
- Anticipate needs of the ECSE teacher, students, and classroom transitions
- The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the district.
- Employee shall properly implement Board Policy 3122, Policy 4122, and Policy 2260 on non-discrimination and shall comply with Federal and State laws and regulations, particularly Part 1 104 of Section 504 Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (34 CFR) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent or designee, in alignment with district goals and operational needs.
Terms of Employment: Class I – 5-7 hours per day based on student need.
Compensation: Entrance Level: $13.98 Maximum level: $16.28
