Elementary Special Education Resource Room Teacher
Locations: Central Elementary and Reeths-Puffer Elementary
Position Summary
Reeths-Puffer Schools is seeking a caring, student-focused, and collaborative Elementary Special Education Resource Room Teacher to support students with individualized learning needs. The successful candidate will provide specialized instruction and interventions for elementary students receiving special education services while working closely with classroom teachers, families, and support staff to ensure student success academically, socially, and emotionally.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide direct specialized instruction to students receiving special education services in individual and small group settings.
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to support student accommodations, modifications, and interventions within the classroom setting.
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records, documentation, and progress reports.
- Utilize data-driven instructional practices and evidence-based interventions to support student growth.
- Create and maintain a positive, structured, and supportive learning environment.
- Communicate regularly with parents, staff, and support service providers regarding student progress and needs.
- Participate in IEP meetings, problem-solving teams, professional development, and staff meetings.
- Support students’ academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and organizational development.
- Collaborate with paraprofessionals and related service providers to meet student needs.
Qualifications
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with Special Education endorsement required.
- Experience working with elementary students with diverse learning needs preferred.
- Knowledge of special education laws, IEP development, and compliance procedures.
- Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to differentiate instruction and implement effective intervention strategies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with intervention programs and progress monitoring tools.
- Knowledge of inclusive practices and co-teaching models.
- Familiarity with behavior intervention strategies and positive behavioral supports.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to move throughout the building and supervise students in various educational settings.
- Ability to assist students as needed with classroom and instructional activities.
