POSITION: Elementary Special Education Teacher
STARTING DATE: 2025/2026 School Year
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Teaching Certification and any of the Special Education endorsements (LD, CI, ASD, EI) or the ability to obtain it within the first year.
- Preferred, Teacher Consultant Certification for Learning Disabilities
- Highly Qualified status
Special Education Teacher: will be responsible for providing specially designed instruction in alignment with IEPs in the resource room and/or co-teaching core curriculum. This teacher will be responsible for developing and implementing appropriate grade level content expectations and activities for special education students in collaboration with a general education teacher, and writing/implementing IEPs for students on his/her caseload. This teacher must also possess the ability to communicate effectively with all students, their parents/guardians, outside agencies, and district staff.
Experience, Knowledge & Skills Desired:
- Knowledge of Special Education rules, laws and regulations.
- Knowledge of typical and atypical child development to identify needs and develop interventions
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with administrators, staff, agencies, medical providers, community providers, young children and families in the role of service coordinator.
- Organizational ability, self-directedness, and initiative when given a variety of responsibilities and assigned tasks.
- Ability to make decisions and problem solve collaboratively within a team of service providers in partnership with the family.
- Provides direct support to the multidisciplinary system of services through shared planning, decision making and collaboration with staff, families and agencies on behalf of the child.
- Assists families of children on caseload in understanding the nature and significance of the child’s disability, condition or delay.
- Classroom experience involving differentiated teaching
- Knowledge of teaching and learning styles including multiple intelligences, auditory, kinesthetic, visual, and language modalities
- Familiarity with MTSS and developing and implementing Positive Behavior Support Plans
- Exceptional communication skills including both oral and written skills
- Strong data collection and interpersonal skills along with the ability to be flexible
- Experience using assistive technology coupled with basic technology skills
- Ability to conduct IEP meetings and complete IEP forms in conformance with the MI special education and IDEA rules.
- Ability to report services provided as required by Medicaid.
- Maintain attendance records and other data, records and reports required by the program supervisor.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures of the Stockbridge Community School District and Ingham Intermediate School District.
- Attend and participate in all scheduled meetings.
- Punctual, reliable and predictable attendance is required
- Other duties as assigned.
