    POSITION SUMMARY
    The ESS Paraprofessional 1:1 Aide provides well-rounded support for the certified special education teachers in meeting the needs of an ESS student with 1:1 support through reinforcing teacher standards and services. The paraprofessional’s role is to help meet the instructional, emotional, social, and behavioral needs of the student receiving 1:1 support under the guidance and direction of the certified special education staff.
    The ESS Paraprofessional 1:1 Aide reports to the assigned school principal for personnel functions (i.e. personal leave, work attire, payroll, etc.) and is under the supervision of both the principal and ESS Director for ESS functions (i.e. trainings, evaluation, instructional needs, ESS compliance, etc.).
                
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
    EDUCATION:
    • High school diploma with a passing score on the ETS Parapro Assessment (PRAXIS)
    CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
    • ETC Parapro Certification
    • Active CPR and First Aid Certification
    WORK EXPERIENCE:
    • Work experience gained through education and certification/license requirements
    • 2 years of paraprofessional experience preferred
    OTHER:
    • Hold an active IVP fingerprint card
    • Must maintain an active driver’s license
    PREFERRED:
    • Bilingual (English and Navajo language)
    • CPI training

    PROCEDURAL:
    • Skilled in Word Processing, Excel, Adobe, and Google Docs
    • Ability to operate standard office equipment and experienced computer user
    • Readiness and willingness to work with students and staff in special education

    SERVICES:
    • Basic Knowledge of child development
    • Follow instruction of the special education teachers and supervisors
    • Maintain training expectations, and use training/instructional methods appropriate for the need and situation of students.
    • Demonstrate ability to appropriately and effectively supervise children.
    • General knowledge of academic subjects relevant to position assignment.
    • Ability to ride in a school bus for extended periods
    • Knowledge of school safety and security procedures
                
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES
    • Provide any information requested by the teacher or administrator for development of the IEP.
    • Assist in the preparation of IEP required materials needed for the lesson (i.e. prepare accommodated materials for the student, etc.).
    • Implement IEP required supports during all portions of the lesson as directed by the teacher.
    • Pull student out of the general education classroom only if required by IEP.
    • Assist in the collection of data on student mastery of IEP goals and objectives using criteria developed by special educator.
    • Assist the teacher in the implementation of the classroom management system with the individual student, including reinforcing and reteaching established classroom routines, as directed by the teacher.
    • Assist in the implementation of the BIP.
    • Will coordinate with special education staff for coverage during lunch breaks and absences in a timely manner.
    • Assist in the collection of data on student mastery of behavior and life skills-related IEP goals and/or objectives using criteria developed by the special educator.
    • Fade supports to individual students, as appropriate.
    • Document the fading of supports per student’s IEP, as directed by the teacher.
    • Supervise or assist the individual student in hallways, play areas, etc. as required by IEP.
    • If student has an abbreviated day, the 1:1 aide can use the time away from that student to assist the special education teacher in duties appropriate for an ESS Paraprofessional.
