      POSITION SUMMARY
      The ESS Paraprofessional provides well-rounded support for the certified special education teachers in meeting the needs of ESS students through reinforcing teacher standards and services. The paraprofessional’s role is to help meet the instructional, emotional, social, and behavioral needs of students receiving ESS services under the guidance of the certified special education staff.
      The ESS Paraprofessional reports to the assigned school principal for personnel functions (i.e. personal leave, work attire, payroll, etc.) and is under the supervision of both the principal and ESS Director for ESS functions (i.e. trainings, evaluation, instructional needs, ESS compliance, etc.).

                         
      MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
      EDUCATION:
      • High school diploma with a passing score on the ETS Parapro Assessment (PRAXIS)
      CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
      • ETC Parapro Certification
      WORK EXPERIENCE:
      • Work experience gained through education and certification/license requirements
      • 2 years of paraprofessional experience preferred
      OTHER:
      • Hold an active IVP fingerprint card
      • Must maintain an active driver’s license
      PREFERRED:
      • Bilingual (English and Navajo language)

      • Skilled in Word Processing, Excel, Adobe, and Google Docs
      • Ability to operate standard office equipment and experienced computer user

      SERVICES:
      • Basic Knowledge of child development
      • Follow instruction of the special education teachers and supervisors
      • Maintain training expectations, and use training/instructional methods appropriate for the need and situation of students.
      • Demonstrate ability to appropriately and effectively supervise children.
      • General knowledge of academic subjects relevant to position assignment.
      • Ability to ride in a school bus for extended periods
      • Knowledge of school safety and security procedures

                         
      ESSENTIAL DUTIES
      • Supports special education teachers in meeting the instructional, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students with special needs in the classroom and community settings.
      • Provides small group and/or individualized instruction to students with disabilities in accordance with the students' IEP and the special education teacher's guidance.
      • Collects instructional and behavioral data for all objectives being taught for each student.
      • Implements Behavior Intervention Plans for students with disabilities, as indicated by the special education teacher(s).
      • Communicates proactively with teachers to inform them of student issues and conversations with parents in a timely manner.
      • Responds to emails and phone calls from school leaders and teachers in a timely manner.
      • Assists during standardized testing to support state and local testing processes and policies.
      • Assists with preparation of daily lesson materials and makes copies of materials for students (print or electronic).
      • Assists with distribution of food, supplies, materials and equipment, including technology.
      • When in a school-based learning environment, monitors students' movement throughout the building to other classrooms, learning areas and cafeteria.
      • Assists students with classroom and cafeteria clean up and wiping down surfaces to uphold sanitation standards as required for safe school environment.
      • Assists administrators and other staff members in the orderly, expedient and safe transition of students from one location to another.
      • Assists students as necessary with physical needs including feeding, toileting, lifting, and mobility.
      • Assists students with healthcare procedures including hygiene and medications as needed for daily care.
      • Assists students with assistive technology devices, including communication devices, switches and orthopedic devices needed for sitting, walking, or standing under the guidance of special education staff.
      • Engages in professional learning opportunities in-person.
      • Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours, and follows attendance and leave processes in worker handbook.
      • Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative.
