Position Title: Full Support Classroom  Paraprofessional 

 

Position Overview:

A Special Education Classroom Aide provides essential support to special education teachers and students with disabilities, ensuring that each student has the resources and assistance needed to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. This role involves working closely with students who have diverse learning needs, implementing individualized education plans (IEPs), and fostering an inclusive and supportive classroom environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Instructional Support:
    • Assist teachers in the delivery of individualized instruction and support to students with disabilities.
    • Adapt educational materials and strategies to meet the needs of students with varying abilities.
    • Provide one-on-one or small group instruction to reinforce learning objectives.
    • Monitor student progress, assist with data collection, and provide feedback to teachers. 
  2. Behavioral Support:
    • Implement and support behavior management plans and strategies as outlined in student IEPs.
    • Assist in de-escalating challenging behaviors and maintaining a positive classroom environment.
    • Provide supervision and guidance during transitions, recess, and other non-instructional times.
  3. Student Engagement:
    • Develop positive relationships with students, encouraging their engagement and participation.
    • Support students in developing social skills, self-regulation, and independence.
    • Assist students with physical needs, including mobility, feeding, and personal hygiene as necessary.
  4. Communication:
    • Maintain open lines of communication with special education teachers, general education teachers, and other school staff.
    • Participate in meetings when requested and as required.
    • Provide updates on student progress and any concerns to the special education team.
  5. Professional Development:
    • Attend training sessions and professional development related to special education.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to share strategies and improve instructional methods.

 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Degree in Education or related field not required but preferred).

Ohio Educational Aide Permit with Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) endorsement 

  • ESEA endorsement is obtained by passing the ParaPro Assessment; or holding an associate's degree; or having at least 2 years of study at an accredited institution of higher education
  • Previous experience working with children, particularly those with disabilities, is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting students with special needs.
  • Basic proficiency in educational technology
  • Ability to handle physical tasks such as lifting and assisting students with mobility.

Reports to: Special Education Teacher and School Principal

Hours: range of 32-37 hours per week
