Job Goal:  The primary goal is to maintain a supportive and effective learning environment when the regular teacher is absent.  Additionally, to ensure the continuity of student support and classroom operations, assisting the teacher in various tasks and providing direct assistance to students

 

Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for work to be performed.
    • Have at least two years of study (60 semester hours or 100 quarter hours) above the remedial level with a grade of “C” or better at a professional Standards Commission approved accredited institute of higher education;  or
    • Earned an associate degree or higher or
  • Passed the State approved paraprofessional exam.

Responsibilities:

  • Prompt and regular attendance.
  • Primary work is to work as a substitute teacher as directed by the principal, assistant principal or front office secretary.
  • Assist in the front office, copy room, counselors’ office, media center, classroom, or other designated area when not working as a substitute teacher. Duties may include, but not limited to, answering the telephone, typing, making copies, signing students in and out, filing, locating students,  etc. 
  • Communicates effectively with teachers and other staff. 
  • Assists teachers with in-person instruction, classroom organization, management and instructional strategies as needed.
  • Assists during standardized testing to support state and local processes and policies.
  • Monitors students’ movement throughout the building to other classrooms, learning areas and cafeteria.
  • Assists in supervising pupils before, during, and after school as needed. 
  • Maintains the confidentiality of all student records, reports, and other documentation.
  • Engages in professional learning opportunities.
  • Performs such other assignments and duties as assigned by the supervisor and Superintendent of Schools.

Physical Requirements:

Able to perform routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities including:

Medium Work:  Exerting 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds as needed to move objects.

Terms of Employment:

Salary shall be paid consistent on the System’s approved salary schedule.  Length of work year and hours of employment shall be established by the system.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the principal in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on classified evaluation.
