JOB TITLE: SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
JOB SUMMARY: Special Education Teacher (bilingual strongly preferred) develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities; evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives; follows state-mandated due process procedures and functions as IEP Manager to assigned students.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor Degree in Special Education. License: Cross-Categorical Special Education
Responsibilities
- Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of special education and is able to accommodate/modify materials to meet the needs of students.
- Be able to collaborate well with staff to plan and implement lessons and materials based on student needs.
- Knowledge and skills in working with children identified within the various categories defined in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 2004. (OHI, SLD, SLI, Autism, etc.)
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching of students with disabilities.
- Ability to effectively analyze needs and problems objectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, students, parents, staff, administration and the general public.
- Discuss students’ progress with parents, other teachers, counselors, and administrators.
- Ability to interpret IEP’s/MSA’s and understand the required needs as stated within them.
- Teach and mentor students as a class, in small groups, and one-on-one.
- Assess students’ skills and determine their educational needs.
- Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.
- Willingness to be person-centered with working with staff and students.
- Knowledge of and willingness to use relevant technology, Google suites, blended learning platforms, and ability to use technology such as iPads to individualize instruction.
- Meet professional teacher education requirements of school district and state.
- Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
- Must have knowledge and experience with cultural sensitivity and awareness.
- Ability to be flexible, resilient, and adaptable to changing priorities, with a willingness to put students first at all times.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
