    Primary Purpose:

     

    Provide instructional support services. Assist teacher in instruction, preparation, and management of classroom activities. Work under direct supervision of teacher.

     

    Qualifications:

     

             Education/Certification:

     

             High School Diploma or GED AND

     

    Completed at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education;

     

    Obtained an associate’s (or higher) degree OR

     

    Met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment –

     

           Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instruction, reading, writing, and mathematics; OR

     

           Knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing, reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate

     

    Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate

     

            

     

             Special Knowledge/Skills:
             
    Biligual Preferred

             Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics

     

             Effective communication and interpersonal skills

     

             Ability to work well with children

     

            

     

             Experience:

     

             One year experience working with children

     

             One year clerical experience, preferred

     

     

     

    Major Responsibilities and Duties:

     

     Instructional Support

     

        1. Provide direct instruction to students under direct supervision of teacher.

     

        2. Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.

     
    1. Assist in classroom management.
    2. Conduct parent involvement activities.
    3. Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
    4. Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
    5. Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.
    6. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
    7. Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
    8. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
     

    Student Management

     
    1. Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
    2. Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
     

    Other

     
    1. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
    2. Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.
    3. Perform other duties as assigned.
     

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

     

             None

     

    Equipment Used:

     

             Personal computer, printer, and copier, and audiovisual equipment

     

    Working Conditions:

     

             Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

     

             Maintain emotional control under stress. Moderate standing, stooping, bending, and lifting.
