Job Title: HIGH SCHOOL RESOURCE ROOM TEACHER 1.0 FTE
Provide specialized instruction and support for students with diverse learning needs. The resource room teacher will use data to guide interventions, develop and write IEPs with transition plans, implement positive behavior support plans, and utilize teaching strategies that promote success in general education settings. This role includes working closely with students, staff, and families to provide support, ensuring effective implementation of special education practices to help students meet individualized goals and thrive in their learning environment.
Qualifications:
- State of Michigan Teaching Certificate (required), SM (preferred), SE, SA, or SV endorsement
- Familiarity with a variety of interventions including the Fountas and Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention System (LLI), Orton-Gillingham, UFLI Foundations, Heggerty, REWARDS, Touch Math, etc. (preferred)
- Strong background in using assessment and data to inform instruction and document student progress (preferred)
- Training in Trauma Informed Strategies and Restorative Practices (or willingness to be trained)
- Successful classroom management strategies and skills (preferred)
Essential Functions:
- Knowledge of transition planning, including preparing students for life after high school, teaching daily living skills, vocational training, and coordinating with community services
- Ability to abide by all district policies and procedures and demonstrate competencies specified in the Michigan Special Education Rules and Regulations
- Knowledge of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), along with the ability to develop present level statements, measurable goals and objectives, and appropriate documentation to record progress towards goals and objectives
- Ability to teach social strategies to students in a classroom setting to facilitate success in general education setting
- Ability to develop and implement positive behavior support plans
- Ability to be enthusiastic, flexible, and cooperative when working with students, parents, teachers, and administrators
- Ability to transform instruction through the creative use of technology
- Knowledge of instructional practices for varied learning styles and individual student needs across multiple grade levels
- Belief that all children can learn and the ability to accept differences in students
- Excellent organizational and communication skills (written, verbal, and listening skills)
- Willingness and commitment to participate in curriculum development, school improvement, and professional development opportunities
- Willingness and ability to maintain regular, reliable and punctual attendance
- Ability to complete other duties as assigned
