General Responsibilities/Job Summary: This is paraprofessional school classroom assistant work. Under the direct supervision of the educator, duties involve assisting with classroom activities, tutoring, monitoring, assisting with implementation of learning programs and activities in mathematics and communication arts (reading, writing, listening, speaking).
Work is supervised by an administrative or technical superior. Assignments are stable in nature and are carried out in accordance with existing instructions, precedents, practices, and procedures.
Essential Functions/Duties:
Under educator supervision and as determined by the lesson plan, tutor a class subject, and provide needed individual/group assistance enabling student progress
Provide assistance and tutoring with K-12 mathematics in individual or group settings per the educator's specific instruction*
Provide assistance and tutoring with K-12 communication arts (reading, writing, listening, speaking) in individual or group settings per the educator's specific instruction*
Under teacher direction, monitor and/or assist with completion of class assignments
Maintain student progress notes and worklogs; prepare related reports
Monitor students' independent projects per the educator's specific instructions*
Attend training sessions related to job functions at the request of the administrator
Notify principal or other building administrator of any emergency situation immediately
Under teacher direction, follow classroom discipline plans
Obtains, word processes, copies, staples, laminates, and delivers instructional materials; develops visual educational aids; maintains classroom bulletin boards and hallway displays
Perform ongoing assessment of student performance and maintain records per the educator's specific instructions*
Maintains current CPR/First Aid/AED Certificate (when required)
Attend work regularly and on time, and complete assigned tasks
* NOTE - All instructional duties shall be performed by the instructional paraprofessional in a purely supportive role under the direct supervision of the educator(s) and/or other supervisor.
Additional Duties:
Obtain and deliver instructional materials per the educator's specific instructions*
Assemble visual educational aides as instructed
Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor(s)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of subject area responsibility, i.e., math, communication arts (reading, writing, listening, speaking)
Considerable knowledge of developmental stages of children
Ability to accept some autonomy of action
Ability to communicate well orally and in writing
Ability to maintain basic education records and prepare related reports
Ability to rate subject matter tests
Ability to expeditiously learn and apply classroom paraprofessional principles and practices
Skill in working with students to impart subject matter knowledge
Ability to perform basic mathematical operations
Ability to operate standard office equipment
Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of work and in working relations with associates, district staff, students and vendors
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with administration, parents, students and associates
Ability to stand, walk, sit, handle, talk, hear, see, carry books, and, where applicable, physically help students with special needs, and be able to carry up to 50 lbs
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Training: Must have completed two years of study at an institution of higher education; obtained an associate's (or higher) degree; or met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness)
Required Certification/Licenses: Must have current CPR/First Aid/AED Certificate (when required);

Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the applicable policies of the Elizabethtown Area School District
