The job of Instructional Paraprofessional is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program within assigned classroom with specific responsibility for assisting in the supervision, care and instruction of students in the classroom; assisting in implementing plans for instruction; monitoring student behavior during non-classroom time; and providing clerical support to teachers and staff.
Essential Functions: - Administers tests, homework, make-up work, etc. for the purpose of supporting teachers in the classroom.
- Assists data collection under the direction of the assigned teacher for the purpose of monitoring student progress.
- Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments (e.g. reading stories, listening to students read, providing writing assistance, reinforcing english lessons, providing spelling practice, facilitating activities, computer learning programs, etc.) for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards.
- Attends job specific trainings and meetings (e.g. first aid, behavior management, etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
- Demonstrates appropriate role modeling (e.g. conversation, manners, emotional support, listening skills, friendly and engaging attitudes, etc.) for the purpose of guiding students in the development of appropriate social and interpersonal behavior.
- Monitors students during assigned periods in a variety of school environments (e.g. rest rooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeteria, parking lots, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
- Provides, under the supervision of assigned teacher, instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities
- Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.
- Supervises and escorts kids to/from classes for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment for students.
Requirments: - Age 16+
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must complete mandatory employee training within the first 3 months of employment.
