Special Education/Transition School-to-Work (TSW) is a formal transition program jointly funded by FUSD and the Arizona Department of Economic Security/Rehabilitation Services Administration, completely dedicated to assisting high school students with disabilities transition into adult life.

Demonstrate the competencies and behaviors needed to improve student preparedness and mastery and to support the core values, vision, and mission of the Flagstaff Unified School District.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT

Arizona Department of Education Secondary Certificate with approved content area and Special Education Certificate required. Flagstaff Unified School District requires the Structured English Immersion (SEI) endorsement, English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement, or Bilingual endorsement of ALL certified teachers. You have one year to complete this requirement. SEI Teachers must have this endorsement at time of hire. http://www.azed.gov/oelas/sei-endorsement/

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Must submit and pass a DCS Central Registry background check online annually through the Arizona Centralized Background Checks (CBC) portal as required by Arizona Department of Economic Security/Rehabilitation Services Administration.

JOB SUMMARY/DESCRIPTION

  • Ensure compliance with federal (IDEA), state, and district laws, procedures, and policies.
  • Assist school teams in facilitating student’s placement along the continuum of services, ensuring placement in the least-restrictive environment and promoting inclusive practices.
  • Support teachers in writing Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Serve as the LEA representative at special education meetings.
  • Facilitate schedules for paraprofessionals at their site, move as needed to fill daily vacancies.
  • Provide appropriate training as needed for special education staff to promote student success in special and general education settings and ensure compliance.
  • Manage the TSW program at assigned high school.
  • Coordinate TSW students' transition activities and systematically disseminate transition information to TSW students
  • Refer students to Vocational Rehabilitation (RSA).
  • Supervise Transition Technicians.
  • Facilitate summer TSW program (June) for additional hourly pay.
  • Develop ongoing relationship with each student in the TSW program.
  • Provide training in skills necessary for the student-led IEP process.
  • Teach career exploration, self-determination, and self-advocacy.
  • Develop the TSW curriculum and lesson plans used for the service provision.
  • Teach the TSW curriculum or supervise the teaching of the curriculum by the Transition Technician.
  • Work collaboratively with the school district Human Resources Department in hiring, supervising, and evaluating the Transition Technician(s).
  • Serve as school district liaison to ADES/RSA and the Arizona Department of Education (ADE).
  • Maintain a log of all activities and time spent on the TSW.
  • Participate in fiscal planning and management activities associated with interfacing TSW with school budgets.
  • Participate in the writing of continuation applications for funding the TSW.
  • Communicate regularly with school district administrators and individual school administration(s) concerning the status of the TSW.

MENTAL TASKS
Communicates verbally and in writing.  Reads.  Analyze and evaluate student progress and course curriculum.  Develop, implement and evaluate plans.  Manages classroom.  Promotes learning and ensures safety.  Perform functions from written and oral instruction and from observing and listening to others.  Evaluate written materials to include written assignment and tests.
 
PHYSICAL TASKS
Work involves the performance of duties where physical exertion and movement is required to perform the aspects of the job.  Assistance is available as required to perform physically demanding tasks.  Work involves sitting and moving for extended periods of time, requires moving from one location to another, reaching, bending, stooping (moving to eye level of the student), hold and grasping objects.  Verbal communication ability required.
 
EQUIPMENT, AIDS, TOOLS, MATERIALS

Uses blackboards, whiteboard, easel, bulletin board, computers, video projectors, chalk, markers, and office or instructional equipment.   FUSD recognizes that ever changing development of technology but expects all staff to keep abreast of changing technology opportunities and use tools and devices provided to them.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoor – classroom environment. Outdoor – all weather conditions and temperatures.  Playground environment. Contact with public, employees, children and parents.  Exposure to noise, dusts, gas and fumes.
 
CONTROL AND SUPERVISION

Monitor control of students, communicates with families frequently about strengths and areas for growth, volunteers and/or assistant aides and paraprofessionals in the classroom, field trips, lunchroom, library, school buses and other areas.
