    JOB TITLE: Long Term Instructional Paraprofessional– Kindergarten/1st Grade

    Summary/Objective
    We are looking for an Instructional Assistant (Long Term Sub) to join our team and support teachers in instruction, management, and organization of a classroom. They will provide positive guidance for students, attending to their physical needs as well as academic and emotional well-being. They will also provide much-needed support during instruction time. 
     
    The elementary kindergarten/first-grade instructional assistant works as an instructional and curriculum support for kindergarten and first-grade teachers.  Instructional assistant will work with children individually or in small groups to deliver standards-based instruction to students in reading, writing, math, and other education-related activities as co-planned with cooperating teachers. They effectively communicate with students, their guardians, and staff; and respond to students’ needs in a way that elevates student achievement. 
     
    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Supervise students in and out of the classroom setting during the school day.
    • Assist students with classroom activities.  Implement the teacher’s instruction plan. 
    • Assists and guides all students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills. 
    • Works with students individually, in small groups, or whole group to reinforce and re-teach basic learning and implement assigned programs.
    • Assists with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task.
    • Assists with fostering independence, socialization, and self-esteem for all students.
    • Support academic interventions through the MTSS Process.
    • Utilize progress monitoring tools.
    • Assist with paperwork and documentation as needed.
    • Monitor students during breaks, recess, field trips, etc.
    • Provide staff communication as needed and requested.
    • Work collaboratively with grade-level team members for planning and grade-level consistency.
    • Assists in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs.
    • Other duties as needed or assigned.

    • Ability to understand and apply educational and instructional theories and practices for the instruction of the students.
    • Ability to identify conflict and take the steps necessary to resolve the issues. Ability to diffuse and manage stressful situations.
    • Ability to promote and follow University Schools policies.
    • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
    Education, Qualification and Related Work Experience
    • High School Diploma required
    • Associates degree preferred
    • Experience working with school age children preferred
    Licenses, Registrations or Certifications
    • Background check required for hire
    • CDE Substitute Authorization

    • Mental Requirements: read, write, understand, interpret and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile and coordinate information and records.
     
    Working Conditions
    • Works in standard office and school building environments.
    • May be exposed to poor weather conditions including heat, cold, wet and snow and other outdoor weather conditions.
    • The work environment combines standard office setting including some standard office equipment (fax, copier, phone, computer, 10-key, etc.)
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate, but occasionally high depending upon student population and activities.
