Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide support/assistance to an individual student, small group, or a classroom in either regular or special education environments. Assistance may be specific to a student’s individual plan, targeted towards specific group needs, or general classroom assistance that helps students access learning.
Provide support and assistance to students(s) in instruction, behavior, transitions, social emotional needs, or daily activities. Responsibilities may include toileting, assisting with feeding and lifting in addition to physical management training
Guides independent student work, small group instruction, or intervention services to pre-teach or reinforce learning of material or skills introduced by and with direction from the certified teacher
Meet with the teacher and/or case manager as needed to align goals and review responsibilities
Learn essential elements of classroom curriculum in order to provide assistance to learners
Assist all school staff in maintaining a positive and safe learning environment and supporting the Core Ethical Values
Review Individualized Education Plans when needed and understand the practical implications for daily practice; this may require academic data collection and documentation.
Attend special education team meetings when required
Reinforce behavior protocols and practices in accordance with the school’s discipline policy and as directed by the classroom teacher and/or case manager; this may include collaboration with other team members
Present as a good role model to all students and maintain professionalism with colleagues and parent/guardians
Actively participate in professional development plans required of all staff, including in-service and required online training sessions
Perform additional responsibilities assigned by the building principal or teacher, related to the responsibilities identified above

Ability to interact and communicate effectively with children of all ages and abilities
Ability to provide behavior management and crisis intervention, including trauma- informed practice
Ability to work as a team member to provide services to children
Ability to use sound judgement and knowledge of student behaviors and district policies to make decisions
Clear verbal and written communication skills
The physical and mental stamina to keep up with high-energy grade school students
