    JOB DESCRIPTION: The following statements of essential functions and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of all personnel within this position. Actual duties and responsibilities may vary depending on building assignment and other factors determined with supervisor and/or building principal.

     

    The Special Education Paraprofessional supports mild moderate needs and significant support needs education teachers and students with disabilities in a secondary school setting. The paraprofessional assists with instructional, behavioral, and personal care needs to ensure students have a safe and productive learning environment.

     

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

     
    • Assist special education teachers in delivering individualized education plans (IEPs).

    • Support students in understanding and completing classroom assignments.

    • Implement instructional strategies as directed by the special education teacher.

    • Modify materials and adapt lessons to meet the needs of students with disabilities.

    • Implement behavioral intervention plans and strategies.

    • Monitor and record student progress and behavior.

    • Support positive behavior reinforcement and conflict resolution.

    • Assist in maintaining a structured and supportive classroom environment.

    • Ensure students' physical needs are met to promote comfort and safety.

    • Supervise students in various settings, including classrooms, hallways, lunchrooms, and during extracurricular activities.

    • Maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all students.

    • Support the teacher in managing classroom routines and procedures.

    • Work collaboratively with special education teachers, general education teachers, and other staff members.

    • Communicate effectively with teachers, administrators, and parents regarding student progress and needs.

    • Participates in professional development and building level staff meetings per the direction of the building principal. 

    • Other duties as assigned.

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

     
    • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting.

    • Assist students with personal care tasks as needed, including toileting, feeding, and hygiene.

    • Ability to lift and assist students as needed.

    • Ability to work in various school environments, including classrooms, playgrounds, and cafeterias.

     

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 181 Day Calendar
