Position Overview

The Charter Middle School for Law and Social Justice is seeking a Middle School STEM Special Education Teacher who is passionate about STEM education and comfortable integrating technology into instruction. The ideal candidate will design engaging, standards-aligned learning experiences that promote curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving while leveraging digital tools to enhance student learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement engaging STEM lessons aligned with New York State Learning Standards

  • Utilize Understanding by Design (UbD) to develop purposeful unit and lesson plans

  • Incorporate hands-on learning, inquiry-based instruction, and technology integration into STEM lessons

  • Use instructional technology platforms such as Apple Classroom, Formative, and other digital tools to enhance instruction and track student progress

  • Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners and varying academic needs

  • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction

  • Maintain a structured, respectful, and inclusive classroom culture

  • Provide clear and timely feedback to students and families regarding academic progress

  • Collaborate with colleagues and instructional leaders to strengthen instruction and student outcomes

  • Participate in professional development, grade team meetings, and school-wide initiatives

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Science, Mathematics, or a related field

  • Minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience, preferably at the middle school level

  • New York State Teaching Certification in a related field (or actively working toward certification)

  • Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills

  • Ability to create a structured, engaging, and student-centered learning environment

  • Experience teaching STEM-related subjects at the middle school level

  • Demonstrated success working in urban, diverse, or non-traditional school settings

  • Experience integrating instructional technology platforms such as Apple Classroom, Formative, or LockDown Browser to enhance instruction, student engagement, and assessment.

  • A master’s degree in Education or a related field, and bilingual Spanish skills are a plus
