OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The special education teacher shall provide learning experiences designed to meet the unique needs of student with disabilities, as outlined on each student’s IEP. The special education teacher shall be responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring an instructional program designed to meet the individual educational/behavior needs of students.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
? Provide instructional activities appropriate to meet each child’s IEP goals and specific objectives.
? Collect data on an on-going basis for monitoring student progress in meeting IEP short-term objectives.
? Design and plan a successful learning experience for each child, taking into account each student’s preferred learning modality and unique motivational needs.
? Design and organize materials needed to meet each student’s success level.
? Design and implement successful classroom behavior management techniques and programs as needed.
? Implement/monitor individual behavior management techniques and programs as needed.
? Schedule students into regular classes as outlined in their IEP.
? Consult formally and informally with classroom teachers on a routine basis to monitor student performance and behavior in their regular classes.
? Serve as a consultant to regular teachers in developing intervention strategies prior to or during the referral/evaluation process.
? Assist in identifying special education students through classroom behavior observations and through conducting formal and informal assessments in suspected areas of academic weakness.
? Assist in arranging annual review meetings within one year of the previous ARC meeting and coordinate a mutually agreeable time with other ARC members.
? Participate in ARC meetings and assist the committee in the development of the IEP and
placement decisions.
? Present monitoring data to other ARC members at the annual review.
? Maintain record of parent contacts and implement all confidentiality procedures.
? Be available for periodic meetings with the Special Education Director.
? Maintain on-file student’s current IEP, work samples, and monitoring data as required by state/federal regulations.
? Participate in the planning, execution, and evaluation of professional development activities.
? Perform other duties and assume responsibilities as assigned by the principal.
