· Sick & personal days Position Summary/Purpose: The Paraprofessional / Teacher Aide provides instructional, behavioral, and/or physical support to students under the direction of certified staff. The role supports individual students or small groups, assists with classroom management, and ensures a safe, inclusive learning environment. The paraprofessional collaborates with teachers, related service providers, and school staff to meet student needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the teacher in implementing lesson plans and instructional activities.
- Support students individually or in small groups to reinforce learning objectives.
- Help manage student behavior using appropriate strategies aligned with teacher guidance and school expectations.
- Supervise students in various settings, including classrooms, lunchrooms, playgrounds, buses, and field trips.
- Provide physical assistance to students as needed (e.g., mobility, toileting, feeding, transferring).
- Assist in preparing instructional materials and organizing classroom supplies.
- Maintain confidentiality of all student information in accordance with legal and ethical standards.
- Use appropriate technology and tools to support student learning and communication.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with teachers and administrators.
- Attend staff meetings and professional development as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support students and classroom operations.
Qualifications:
Must meet one of the following per Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) paraprofessional requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must meet one of the following per Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) paraprofessional requirements: Associate’s degree or higher; or 60 semester hours of college credit; or Passing score on the ETS ParaPro Assessment (we can help guide you if you do not have this)
- Demonstrated ability to work patiently, respectfully, and effectively with students of varying needs and backgrounds.
- Ability to follow directions, take initiative, and adapt to classroom needs.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform tasks involving physical activity when required.
Preferred skills/experience:
- As a multi-language district, we always prefer staff who are bilingual but it is not required for this position
- Experience working with children in educational or care settings is preferred.
Environmental Conditions: indoor climate-controlled office environment
