REPORTS TO: Principal and/or Director of Student Services, and supervising teacher(s)
JOB GOAL: To provide support to students to enhance access to the general education curriculum, working under the direction of certified professional staff.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists by working with students individually, in small groups, or in large groups on tasks as directed by the teacher.
Paraprofessionals may support students in all school settings, as assigned, including general and special program classrooms, specials, lunch, recess and/or field trips.
Supports students by implementing behavioral support plans under the direction of certified professional staff.
Assists in the provision of accommodations in accordance with students’ needs, IEP, and/or 504 Plan.
Collects data on student performance to be shared with the supervising teacher(s).
Serve as a resource to the teacher(s) and participate in team meetings when appropriate, as determined by administration.
May assist with the physical, emotional, and health needs of students, such as lifting, feeding, toileting/diapering and personal hygiene.
May assist with reinforcement and repetition of skills introduced in speech, occupational, or physical therapy sessions.
Participates in training or professional development as required by administration or required for assignment.
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facility.
May be required to “cover” classrooms for brief periods, as directed by the administration.
May assist teachers in the preparation of instructional materials as time permits.
Performs duties, such as playground supervision, as directed by administration.
Perform other duties or responsibilities as assigned by supervising teacher or administrator.
EVALUATION: Principal and/or Director of Student Services with input from supervising teacher(s), consistent with district collective bargaining agreement.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above, in addition to the following: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; and sit. The employee is regularly required to see, talk, and hear. The employee is regularly required to use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb steps; stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee is required to supervise students requiring the employee to match walking speed that matches the student and may at times require the ability to run to safeguard students. The employee must occasionally lift, carry, move, and/or restrain (as per state regulations) school-age students. Employee must occasionally move equipment and/or supplies. Employee may be required to drive, as directed by administration. Employee is regularly required to handle stressful situations and resolve conflicts. The job is performed for the most part in a school setting with occasional outside weather conditions. The noise level is that of a typical school setting.
