Elementary Special Education Paraprofessional
Work Hours:
7:45-3:15 Monday - Friday primarily on student contact days
Job Duties:
Duties may include:
1. Assist student(s) with learning and social skills.
2. Help create a routine for the classroom to follow.
3. Work closely with students, either individually or in groups, to assist in delivering general education curriculum and implementing Individualized Education Plan components.
4. Assist students throughout the day with basic skills and support with hygiene, grooming, dressing, mobility needs, and toileting.
5. Promote student success through appropriate use of feedback, rewards, incentives, praise, and communication.
6. Encourage independence in students.
7. Display proficiency in adapting materials and working with students on skills or behaviors.
8. Assists with collecting data for IEP goals and directed by supervising teacher/case manager.
9. Assists in the development and maintenance of a positive learning environment.
10. Assist students with assistive technology as directed by the supervising teacher/case manager.
11. May be required to place students in a physical hold to maintain the safety of the child or others.
Qualifications:
1. HS Diploma or equivalent
2. Two year post secondary education and/or pass the state-approved paraprofessional proficiency test.
3. Accepts direction from supervisor and is willing to work as a team.
