Job Title: Paraprofessional
Reports to: Head of Lower School
FLSA Status: Exempt
Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate paraprofessional to work with an individual or a small group of students (grades K-2) who struggle with behavior in the classroom setting. The paraprofessional will provide direct support to students in the classroom and other school settings, helping them develop appropriate behaviors, social skills, and coping strategies. The ideal candidate will work closely with teachers, administration, and students’ parents to implement behavior intervention plans and ensure a safe, supportive learning environment.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Provide one-on-one or small group support for students with significant behavioral challenges
Implement behavior intervention plans and positive behavior supports under the guidance of teachers and administrators
Reinforce social-emotional learning strategies to help students develop appropriate coping skills
Support students in the general education classroom, ensuring they remain on-task and engaged
Collaborate with teachers and administration to modify assignments and activities based on student needs
Document student behaviors, progress, and interventions for review by teachers and administration
Supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, and other non-classroom activities to encourage positive behavior
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working with students, faculty, and families
Additional responsibilities as deemed necessary by the administration
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Ability to remain calm, patient, and supportive in stressful situations
Strong communication and collaboration skills with faculty and parents
Willingness to receive additional training in behavioral intervention and techniques
Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations
