Location: Pleasant Valley Intermediate School
PURPOSE: Assists teachers with instructional and non-instructional classroom and/or other student-related functions.
FUNCTIONS:
Follows all laws, Board Policies, regulations, rules and procedures, and complies with the instructions and/or directives from his/her supervisor(s).
Depending upon assignment, may work independently in assigned school settings.
Establishes an effective working rapport with all other staff and maintains a positive relationship with the school district’s internal and external publics.
Assists in the implementation of the instructional and/or non-instructional program under the direction of the teacher(s) and/or other professional staff, working with students individually and/or in small groups.
Takes direction from and communicates and collaborates with general education teachers and special education teachers and/or other professional staff.
Assists the teacher(s) and/or other professional staff in planning and preparing the learning environment, setting up equipment, and preparing needed materials and supplies.
As directed, administers instruction and/or assessments individually and/or to small groups of students.
Attends all required meetings and staff development programs and activities.
Assists in the supervision of instructional and non-instructional activities and areas.
Performs clerical and/or other tasks as assigned.
Provides assistance in monitoring and addressing student behavior and informs the teacher(s) and/or other professional staff of student performance/progress in this regard.
As is applicable, operates equipment used for instructional or non-instructional purposes.
Under the supervision of the teacher(s) and/or other professional staff, helps in the creation of individualized learning materials.
Helps students, individually or in groups, with assignments under the direction of the teacher(s) and/or other professional staff, providing academic and/or non-academic instruction, remediation, and reinforcement of skills.
Under the direction of the teacher(s) and/or other professional staff, provides technology assisted instruction for remediation and reinforcement to students.
Supports students with instructional needs and assignments, monitors progress, and provides assistance as needed inside and/or outside of the classroom setting.
As is appropriate, provides documentation and record keeping and/or maintains logs or journals.
As applicable, provides assistance to students with motor and/or mobility limitations, including but not limited to rotating, stretching, and/or lifting students
As applicable, provides assistance to students for Activities of Daily Living (ADL) including, but not limited to, toileting, diapering, washing of hands/face, brushing/combing of hair, organizing materials to go home, zipping/buttoning clothing, tying shoes, etc.
Assists teacher(s) in communicating/collaborating with parents/guardians.
Completion of School Based Access Program (MA) service logs per the requirements on a daily basis and submitted weekly.
Helps maintain a safe school environment by properly reporting dangerous or potentially dangerous situations, accidents, and/or injuries,
Advocates for students by reporting suspected cases of abuse, neglect, postural defects, poor health, poor eyesight and/or hearing, contagious disease, and/or learning deficiencies.
Maintains highly qualified status and, as is directed, maintains contemporary professional awareness and promotes personal professional growth through participation in professional development activities.
As authorized, works the additional hours necessary to complete tasks as assigned.
Performs the work described herein without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of himself/herself or others.
Performs other duties and related tasks as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years of schooling in postsecondary general education or equivalent experience is preferred.
Must possess and maintain highly qualified status.
Has the ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
Must possess and maintain current certification in CPR and First Aid.
Possesses effective communication, judgmental, planning, organizational, problem-solving, and human relations skills.
Must possess and display the ability to follow directives and adhere to the established chain of command.
Must be dependable, punctual, flexible, appropriately attired, neat in appearance, and able to manage time appropriately.
Must maintain a professional demeanor and image.
Must be courteous to students, staff, and the general public.
Must possess adequate interpersonal skills, demonstrating the ability to work independently and/or on a team.
Possesses necessary technology-related knowledge and individual computer/technology related skills.
Provides evidence of professional growth and development by keeping current in the field.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to remain standing and/or in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time.
Must be able to move about the work area to access materials, file cabinets, machinery, etc.
Must be able to operate equipment relative to his/her position.
Must be able to travel between school district buildings and other job-related locations as necessary.
Must be able to withstand changes in environmental conditions inside and outside of the work facility, and to adapt to these changes.
Must be able to access all work areas and locations.
Must be able to bend, stoop, or reach above shoulder level to store and retrieve materials and perform other tasks.
Must be able to lift as required.
