  •   Job Summary:  

    Under the direction of the Principal or Assistant Principal and assigned classroom teacher, the paraprofessional assists in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of students in a classroom or instructional setting. The paraprofessional performs various tasks in assisting with the educational needs associated with the program to which assigned. The paraprofessional may also be required to assist in monitoring hallways, bathrooms, lunch, playground/recess areas, bus loading zones, and small groups of children or individuals, etc. as assigned, under the direction of the building administrator. 



    Qualifications:
    • High school graduate. 
    • Must hold the Educator License with Stipulations for Paraprofessionals - ELS (PARA). 
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
    • Ability to work closely with the teacher to assist with instruction and the supervision of students.
    • Able to serve as a role model for students by demonstrating a positive attitude and strong work ethic.  
    • Ability to follow oral and written directions. 
    • Ability to use independent judgment and demonstrate initiative. 
    • Ability to maintain effective working relationships as well as a commitment to teamwork. 
    • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

    Primary Responsibilities:
    • Prepares for classroom and/or other assigned activities under the direction of the teacher and/or principal. 
    • Assists the teacher with the instruction and supervision of students during classroom activities. 
    • Assists the teacher in the preparation of instructional materials for use during whole group and small group instruction. 
    • Works with individual students or small groups to reinforce new skills initially introduced by the classroom teacher. 
    • Assists the teacher in devising and implementing strategies for reinforcing skills based on data. 
    • If working in a special education classroom, assists the special education teacher in complying with IEP requirements for individuals and groups of students. 
    • If working in a special education classroom, responsible for assisting the special education teacher in implementing behavior management strategies consistent with the student’s IEP. 
    • Supervises and assists assigned students with feeding, dressing, undressing, positioning, toileting, and other health needs as required.
    • Prepares students for and accompanies them to physical education, art, music, and other classes taught by a specialist. 
    • Assists with critical daily activities such as student arrival and dismissal, lunch, recess, and washroom breaks, as directed. 
    • Assists the teacher in the supervision of students as they travel back and forth from the classroom to the washroom, playground, lunchroom, gymnasium, library, and other educational settings. 
    • Re-enforces behavioral expectations as directed by the teacher.
    • Assists the teacher in managing discipline concerns in accordance with administrative regulations, school board policies, and legal requirements. 
    • Alerts the certified staff to any problem or special information about an individual student. 
    • Maintains anecdotal notes, written observations, and other approved forms of documentation for students when instructed to do so by the teacher. 
    • Attends building meetings and in-service training, as required. 
    • Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in the school environment and the community. 
     

     

    Salary and Benefits:
    • Starting hourly pay of $18.01-$20.49. 
    • Hourly pay is commensurate with education.
